Where Are OBS Recordings Saved? [Full Guide]

Follow the steps given below and locate your OBS recordings.

  • Open OBS and click on the File option from the top left corner.

  • Select Show Recordings from the menu.

Now the destination folder will be open on your screen, where recordings are stored for OBS.

The above procedure gave you the details of where does OBS store recordings.

Now if you want to change the default storage destination of your OBS folder, follow these steps –

  • Launch the OBS and click on the File tab. Next select the Settings.

  • Click on the Output option. Here you can see the path where OBS is storing the recordings.

To change the default storage destination folder, you have to Click on Browse and select your desired destination.

Storage Requirement For OBS?

So, now that you know where do OBS recordings go and how to change the folder location, you should also know how much storage space does OBS recordings require.

This depends upon a few factors like – recording resolution, quality, bitrates, and frame rates.

It is difficult to calculate the exact amount of space needed for a recording.

But you can control your OBS recordings by changing the Recording quality.

You can access it from the Settings menu in OBS studio as shown in the picture below.

The higher the settings are set, the quality of the recording increases as well as the size of the file.

See in the table below how the recording settings depend on the file size:

Some third-party application also helps to calculate the file size of your OBS recordings. So, you can use those to check your file size.

The default format of OBS recording is .mkv. But you can also change it to .flv, .mp4, .mov, etc.
