It is well known that Windows is being developed with portable devices in mind. Windows 10 is a very good example of this fact, with many optimizations seen in the operating system being designed with laptops and mobiles in mind. The native battery saver is very efficient and helps a lot during long working hours.
Some users have recently reported an error where they see Windows 10 low battery notification not working on their devices. Here I shall discuss how you can easily bring back the Windows 10 low battery warning using a few simple solutions.
Laptop Doesn’t Warn Me When Battery Low Windows 10
The low battery notification in Windows 10 is a feature that we do not know how important it is until it goes missing. The warning helps us in preparing for when the battery will run out eventually, especially if you are not carrying around the travel adapter for charging or if there are no charging stations nearby.
If you see the Windows 10 low battery notification not working, here are some simple solutions that you can use to diagnose the reason and then troubleshoot it.
Solution 1: Check The Notifications
The battery notifications are shown either in small popups just above the taskbar, or as banners when the battery is lower than 15%. If the notifications are turned off for some reason, you will miss out on such notifications.
To troubleshoot this error, check if the notifications are turned on for your battery. You need to check for the notifications in both the Settings app and the Control Panel. Here are the steps you can follow for the same:
- First, open the Settings Use the keyboard shortcut Win + I.
- Click on System.
- From the left pane, click on Notifications & actions.
- From the right pane, make sure that the toggles next to the following are turned towards On
Settings
Security and Maintenance
- Next, open the Control panel. You can do this from the desktop icon or from a Run dialog.
- Confirm if the View by is set to Small or Large icons.
- Click on Power Options from the list of items available.
- Next to your active plan, locate and click on the Change plan settings link.
- In the next window, click on Change advanced power settings This will open a new dialog.
- In the Advanced settings tab, expand the Battery section by clicking on the small plus next to it.
- Next, expand the Low battery notification section similarly.
- Here, you will find the notification settings. Set both of these settings to On.
- Next, expand the Critical battery notification section.
- Set both of these settings to On as well.
- Click on Apply followed by OK to save the settings.
Post this, you should receive the notifications for a low battery on your device.
Solution 2: Run The Power Troubleshooter
If enabling the notifications did not help you solve this error, there is a chance that there is something wrong with the battery itself that is causing the Windows 10 low battery warning not to appear on your screens. If this is the case, start by running the battery troubleshooter and check if there is something wrong with the battery.
You will find the list of troubleshooters in Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
Here, run the power troubleshooter by clicking on the Run the troubleshooter button that appears when you click on the Power section. The troubleshooter will check for any errors with your power and attempt to fix them on its own.
Solution 3: Change The Low Battery And Critical Battery Levels
In a strange Windows bug, the low battery notification in Windows 10 fails to show up on certain power levels. Hence, you can confirm if this is the case for you by changing the low and critical battery levels for your computer. Follow these steps for the same:
- Open the Advanced settings tab as shown in Step 10 of solution 1.
- Expand the Battery section.
- Here, expand the Low battery level section and set the value to 15% or anything that you would like.
- Next, expand the Critical battery level section and set the value to 7% or another value of your choosing.
- Click on OK to save the changes that you made.
Tip: As a precautionary measure, change the Critical battery action to Hibernate. This will make sure that you do not lose your work when the battery runs out for your device.
Solution 4: Power Cycle Your Laptop
If the solutions provided above failed to help you in solving this error, you can attempt to power cycle your computer using the following steps:
- Save your work on your computer and shut down your PC.
- Remove the battery from your laptop.
- With the battery removed, press and hold the power button for about 3-5 seconds.
- Insert the battery again and power on your device.
