This feature is under development and it isn’t certain when the feature is rolling out for the beta users in the desktop version to improve user security.
The feature is said to be available for both Windows and Mac users.
The meta-owned platform is known to add new features for its client on different devices for improving the user experience.
It will be very beneficial, especially for those who share their computers with others and netizens are eagerly waiting for the feature to roll out in the market.
How To Use The Screen Lock Feature On WhatsApp Desktop?
Users can easily enable the screen lock feature from the Settings menu.
If the user leaves the desktop unattended for a certain period, it will help in protecting the privacy of the user and will help in restricting access to chats.
Since this is an optional feature, one needs to activate it manually to secure the WhatsApp desktop version.
The moment the user turns up the desktop version of WhatsApp it will be mandatory for the user to enter the password for accessing the same.
You can easily lock your WhatsApp screen by following this method:

It has been reported that the password which will protect the desktop WhatsApp version will be stored locally on the device itself.
Also, if the user forgets the password, then it is mandatory to log out of the desktop WhatsApp and again log into it by scanning the QR from the smartphone.
So, it completely depends upon the users to enable it if they want to share their system with someone or they can simply set it off when they are the only ones who are handling their PC.
Many things still remain unknown about this particular feature since its a work in progress.
Going forward we can also expect WhatsApp to add support for fingerprint or face unlock for desktops.
