Malware or viruses at times start behaving like the WaasMedicAgent files so it is advisable to check whether it is a threat to your device.

WaasMediAgent.exe was actually introduced to fix the problems related to Windows Update.

But instead of solving problems, WaasMedicAgent was known to cause a few problems like high RAM usage, high disc usage, and high CPU usage too.

This annoying trait of WaasMedicAgent keeps the users wondering whether to use it or disable it.

How To Disable WaasMedicAgent?

If you find that your memory usage is running at 100% and mostly WaasMedicAgent has occupied it then go through the fixes mentioned below.

I have mentioned a few ways to disable WaasMedicAgent in this write-up.

Go through the article in detail and follow the troubleshooting methods to dodge the circumstances.

Here is how you can do it:

1) Disable WaasMedicAgent Using RegEdit

If Windows doesn’t allow you to disable the service from the service app, then you can disable it using the Registry Editor.

Be careful while changing the value or while using the Registry key since a minor mistake can be problematic for your device.

          Follow the steps given below:

  • Open the Windows Run Command box and enter the command:

regedit

regedit

  • Press Enter and click Yes when the user account command prompt window pops up.
  • Then, copy-paste the line mentioned below and hit Enter.

  • From the right-side panel double-click the Start property under the WaaSMedicSVC
  • Next, enter the data value as 4 and click on Ok.

Finally, close the window and restart the device and check if the issue still persists.

2. Run SFC & DISM Scan

Windows have some unique features which automatically fix the issue with a few clicks.

Running the SFC and DISM scan, which repairs the corrupted and missing system files and the Windows image, can solve this issue.

Follow the instructions given below and perform the SFC scan:

  • Type command prompt on the Windows Search bar.

  • Right-click on the Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator.

  • On the elevated Command Prompt Window, type the following commands and hit Enter.

After the completion of the process restart your PC and run DISM scan to repair the corrupted files if any.

Follow the instructions given below to run the DISM scan:

  • Open the elevated command prompt window once again.
  • Type the following command and hit Enter.

Wait till the entire process gets over and then restart the PC.

Check if the issue is resolved or else go to the next solution.

3. Disable Or Uninstall Anti-virus

Misconfiguration and conflict with the anti-virus software can be one of the reasons for the WaasMedicAgent.exe high CPU issue.

So, you can disable the Anti-virus application temporarily.

Disabling and uninstalling the anti-virus software temporarily can help you fix your issue.

The anti-virus software installed on your PC monitors all the activities and tries to block suspicious activity if they find any.

Since WaasMedicAgent at times behaves like a virus it runs into a conflict with the anti-virus software.

Follow the steps mentioned below to disable the inbuilt Windows security:

  • In the Windows Search bar type Windows Security and select the first option.

  • From the left panel select Virus and Threat Protection.

Using the Disc Cleanup feature you can fix your problem since it makes it easier for you to delete the unnecessary files on your computer which have in turn taken up a lot of space.

This is how you can perform the Disc Cleanup:

  • Press the Windows + S keys at the same time to open Search.
  • Type Disc Cleanup and then select the first option.

5. Pause Windows Updates

The next thing you can do if your issue hasn’t been fixed yet is to pause your Windows Updates settings for 365 days.

By pausing the Windows Update, you can fix the WaasMedic issue.

Here is what you need to do:

  • Choose Settings from the Windows Search menu and go to Update and Security.

windows-update&security

  • In the next window scroll down and click on Advanced Options.

check-for-updates

  • This option will help you to disable the Windows Update maximum for 365 days.

If the issue isn’t fixed yet then go to the next solution.

6. Delay Your Updates

Make sure that you are only activating WaasMedicAgent if you face any issues while activating your Windows 10 or Windows 11.

You can pause the updates of Windows 10 or Windows 11 to temporarily stop the high disc usage and also from using excessive amounts of RAM.

Though it isn’t a permanent solution to your problem still pausing the updates is a good option to keep your device working for a bit.

Make sure to run it later so that it can fix the issues which occurred.

7. Disconnect Removable Drives

This is actually not a fix but a workaround.

If you are using any removable drives like external HDDs or USB Flash drives then temporarily disconnect them and see whether it fixes the issue.
