What To Do When Failed To Download File In Minecraft?

When the file contents differ from what was expected in Minecraft, follow the solutions given below:

1) Check Your Internet Connection

When you are unable to download a file, first check your internet connection. You will not be able to download a file in Minecraft if you do not have a stable internet connection.

You can visit speedtest.net and click on the Go button to check your internet speed.

Sometimes the Minecraft servers are down. This can also be the reason why you are facing the issue. So, click on this link to see if there is any Minecraft server outage.

If there is any problem, wait till the servers are live again.

If you find that your internet connection is stable and there is no server outage, then try manually downloading the file.

2) Try To Download The File Manually

It is recommended to follow the error message on the screen. The error message contains the name of the missing file.

So, try to download the file manually. To do that, follow the steps given below:

From the error message, copy the URL of the missing file and paste the same on the address bar of your web browser.
Let the file get downloaded automatically.
Check the File Explorer path given on the error message and navigate to that.

Copy and paste this path to the address bar in your File explorer.
Go to your downloads folder and transfer the missing file you have recently downloaded to the specific file in file Explorer.
If there is any other old file of the same name, replace it.

Now, restart the Minecraft Launcher and check if this fixes the issue. If the issue persists, update the Minecraft Launcher.

3) Update Minecraft

An outdated Minecraft launcher can be the reason why Minecraft fails to download a file.

So, update the Minecraft Launcher to fix the issue.

Here is how to update the Minecraft Launcher:

Open Minecraft Launcher.
Click on the three dots menu.

Select Manage.

Click on the Files tab.

Click on Check for Updates.

Once done, try to download the content you want and check if this fixes the problem. If not, delete the corrupted mods in Minecraft.

4) Delete Corrupted Minecraft Mods

To enhance the Minecrfating experience, players often use mods. Mods help fix bugs, add content to the game, give more options to the players to interact in the Minecraft world.

But if one of these mods is corrupted, then Minecraft can have problems downloading files, and the contents differ from what was expected.

If you can download it now, close the launcher.
Copy each Minecraft mod and paste them to the Mods folder. Open the Minecraft launcher each time to see if it is working fine.

Keep repeating the process till you detect the problematic Mod.
Once you find the corrupted Mod, update the Mod.

5) Disable Firewall

6) Set Java As Default To Open .Jar File Extension

Launch Run utility.

Type the following command in the Run command box.
Press Enter:

%appdata%\.minecraft\assets\indexes\

Locate .Jar or .Java file extensions. Right-click on it. Open Properties.

Select Change option for Open with. Click on OpenJK Platform Binary or Java.
Click on Apply. Now open the Minecraft Launcher and check if the issue is fixed. If not, reinstall Minecraft.
