Microsoft Word now comes with many editing tools, which can help you give the finishing touches to an image before sending it in a document. these features include changing colors, adjusting the transparency of the image, and removing the background altogether.

these formatting options are available after you insert an image into your Word document. Here are the two methods you can use to make the picture transparent in Microsoft Word.

Method 1: Use The Set Transparent Color Tool

In the new editions of Microsoft Office, the image editing tools have been developed to be quite powerful. There is a tool within Word which allows you to select and remove a color by making it transparent. Here are the simple steps you need to follow for the same:

  1. Open a Word document and insert the desired image in your document.
  2. Click on the image once to highlight it.
  3. In the top ribbon menu, look for the additional tab. It should be titled Picture Format.
  4. Click on the Picture Format tab to gain access to the Microsoft Word image editing tools.
  5. Here, click on the Color tool to expand the additional settings.
  6. Select Set Transparent color tool from the additional menu.

Things To Keep In Mind:

There are two things that you keep in mind while using this tool. These include the situations where you cannot use this tool in Word, so make sure to keep this in mind while using this method:

  • How to set multiple transparent colors in Word : You can only set one color as transparent in Microsoft Word. This becomes a problem in complex images, which have different shades of the same color. In such situations, you will have to switch to a dedicated photo editor, or use method 2 as provided below.
  • You cannot use this tool if you insert the image as a shape fill.
