Below are some troubleshooting steps that will give you better performance and help you get your PS5 running at peak performance again.

1. Restart PS5

A simple restart will fix temporary system glitches, clear the memory cache, and refresh the entire system, thereby improving the performance.

So, restarting your device will help to restore smooth, high-performance gaming, and for that, here are the steps:

  • Press the PS button on your controller to open the control center.

  • Select Power and choose Restart PS5 or a similar option.

  • Once the device restarts, check if this could resolve the issue. If not make sure that the game is compatible with your device and region and then move on to thye next solution.

2. Check The HDMI Cable

Ensure the HDMI and power cables are securely connected between your PS5 and the TV or monitor. Loose connections can cause issues with display quality.

Always try using the official PS5 HDMI cable, and if it is damaged, immediately replace it with a new and original cable.

Also, the HDMI port on your TV/monitor can be faulty, and in that case, try connecting your PS5 to a different HDMI port.

3. Change The Video Transfer Rate

The video transfer rate setting on the PS5 is known to control how data is sent to your TV or monitor via the HDMI cable; therefore, adjusting this setting will help stabilize the video output and improve performance.

To change the video transfer rate, here’s what you can do:

  • Open Settings.
  • Select the Screen and Video option.
  • Then select Video Output.
  • Try selecting a lower video transfer rate if available.

4. Tweak Settings

Tweaking the PS5 settings will play an important role in optimizing the performance and, in turn, help you get the best gaming experience.

Here’s how you can tweak a few settings:

  • Navigate to PS5 Settings and go to Screen and Video.
  • Select Video Output and then select Resolution and try out a lower resolution.

  • Next, you can turn off the variable refresh rate, or VRR.
  • Next, enable the 120 Hz video output for games that support 120 Hz Framerate. If that does not work for you, you can turn it off.
  • Scroll down and next turn off the HDR.
  • Turning off HDR during games on your PS5 can sometimes improve your gaming experience.
  • HDR can add a small amount of input delay, which might affect fast-paced, competitive games.
  • Turning off HDR can help reduce stuttering and improve responsiveness.

5. Update Firmware

Keeping the PS5 firmware up to date is crucial because of its performance, stability, and compatibility. The frequently released updates will help you get the latest fixes and improvements and pave the way for a smoother gaming experience.

This is how you can do it:

  • Navigate to PS5 Settings.
  • Go to System, then from the System Software section.
  • Select System Software Update and Settings.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the latest update file and wait till you get the confirmation message.

6. Test On Another TV Or Monitor

Some displays may have incompatible settings, refresh rate limitations, or any kind of hardware issues that can affect the performance.

So, connect your PS5 to a different TV or monitor and see whether the performance improves on the other display. If it does, then the issue is likely with the original TV or monitor.

All you need to do is connect another device, or another console, or a PC to your TV or monitor using the same HDMI cable and port.

If the other device also has display issues, it confirms the problem is with the TV or monitor.

7. Change Display Area

Adjusting the display area will ensure that the screen is correctly optimized for gameplay, as an incorrect display will cause various issues and will lead to performance issues.

This is what you need to do:

  • Navigate to Settings.
  • Then go to Screen and Video.
  • Then select Screen.
  • Then select Adjust Display Area.

  • Now adjust the display area and check.

8. Check For Overheating Issues

Overheating creates bad performance, thereby leading to low FPS, frame rate drops, stuttering, and blurry textures. So, it is essential that your PS5 stays cool and can thereby improve the stability and performance of the device.

Also, check that the PS5 console is not overheated and keep your PS5 in a well-ventilated and open area with at least 4 inches of space around it, away from enclosed spaces and heat sources.

You can position it either vertically or horizontally on a stable surface without blocking the vents.

Make sure you clean the exterior with a dry cloth and use compressed air for the vents.  Avoid stacking items on top of the console and monitor for unusual fan noises, reaching out to Sony support if needed.

Maintain a cool room temperature and consider using a cooling stand for better airflow.

Final Words

So, try out all the fixes, and do not let laggy or blurry textures ruin your gaming experience.
