Here are the reasons why IPTV may not work with Chromecast.

  • Corrupted App Cache or Data – Temporary files stored by the IPTV app may become corrupted over time, causing crashes or failed casting.
  • Incomplete or Failed App Updates – If the app didn’t update properly, it might contain broken files or outdated components incompatible with Chromecast.
  • Unstable Internet Connection – Weak or fluctuating Wi-Fi can prevent Chromecast from streaming IPTV content smoothly or connecting to the app.
  • Outdated Chromecast System Software – Older firmware may lack the necessary bug fixes or compatibility improvements needed for IPTV apps to function correctly.
  • Insufficient Storage Space – Low internal storage on Chromecast can lead to app instability, slow performance, or failure to launch.
  • VPN or Proxy Interference – VPNs and proxies may block region-specific IPTV content or disrupt the app’s ability to authenticate and stream.
  • App-Specific Bugs or Compatibility Issues – Some IPTV apps may not be fully optimized for Chromecast, especially after recent updates or policy changes.
  • Device Configuration Errors – Incorrect network settings, casting permissions, or app permissions can prevent proper communication between the IPTV app and Chromecast.
  • Hardware Limitations or Faults – Rarely, the Chromecast device itself may have hardware issues affecting performance or connectivity.
  • Licensing or Regional Restrictions – Certain IPTV services may restrict casting due to licensing agreements or geographic limitations.

How to Fix IPTV is Not Working with Chromecast

Follow the steps provided below to fix the issue when IPTV is not working on Chromecast.

1. Clear App Cache and Data

When IPTV is not working on Chromecast, clear the app cache.

Over time, apps store temporary data that can become corrupted and this can also cause lagging issues. Clearing cache and data can resolve errors and restore the app to proper working order.

Here is how to do so:

  • Go to Settings then Apps then See all apps.
  • Select the app that’s not working. Here we are showing the method with this app, the steps are the same for IPTV app. Select Force Stop.
  • Next, select Clear Cache. Clearing cache will not sign you out of the account. However, if you select Clear Data, you will get signed out of your account. After clearing the app cache, select Open and see if the app is opening now.

2. Uninstall and Reinstall the App

If IPTV app is not working after clearing its data, reinstalling it can help replace any corrupt files or incomplete updates.

  • Go to Settings then Apps then See all apps.
  • Select the app and choose Uninstall.
  • Open the Google Play Store, find the app, and Reinstall it.

3. Check the Internet Connection

Most apps require a stable internet connection. Poor or intermittent Wi-Fi can prevent apps from loading content or functioning properly.

  • Go to Chromecast Settings then select Network & Internet.
  • Check that the Chromecast is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
  • Test the internet speed on another device by visiting speedtest.net and restart your router if needed.

4. Check for System Updates

System software updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements that affect how apps behave. Here is how you can update the specific app:

  • Go to Settings then System then About then System Update.
  • Download and install any available updates.
  • Restart the Chromecast after updating. If Chromecast is not updating, follow this guide to fix it up.

5. Free Up Storage Space

When your Chromecast runs low on storage, it can cause apps to crash or fail to load. Clearing space improves performance and stability.

  • Navigate to Settings then, select System then, Storage.
  • Uninstall apps or delete unused media to free up space.

You can also plug in external storage via a USB-C hub.

6. Turn off Proxy or VPN Services

VPNs and proxies can interfere with app access that require some region-specific licensing.

So, if you are using a VPN or a proxy service, disable it. Once done, reboot your Chromecast and relaunch the app again and check if it works this time.

7. Factory Reset the Device

If all else fails, you can perform a factory reset. This will clear all data, settings, and apps and you need to reinstall then afterwards.

  • To factory reset a Chromecast device, go to Settings then select System then About and then Factory Reset.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to finish the process. You can also use the dedicated button to reset Chromecast.

8. Contact App or Google Support

If IPTV app still doesn’t work, there may be an issue with the app itself or your hardware. Official support can help you identify deeper issues or offer replacement options.

Visit the app developer’s support site or Google Chromecast Help.

Wrapping Up

IPTV issues with Chromecast can be frustrating, but most are fixable with a few simple steps. Start with clearing cache and checking your internet connection, then move on to reinstalling the app or updating your system. If all else fails, a factory reset or contacting support may be your best bet.
