Process 1: Make Use Of The Mute Button

Is amazon echo always listening? Check the mute button on the Amazon Echo device. It’s not there just to lull you giving a false sense of security.

Amazon created this button to put the device in mute mode with no voltage passing through the mic security.

Some mics do not require a battery and they might not work magically when you shut out the rest of the echo.

But, yes, this mute mode is a pretty good option!

Depending upon the model of your device, the mute button looks like a microphone or a circle through which a line pass.

When you are not using the device actively you may turn on the mute mode.

Process 2: Block The Camera

You may also use the camera slider if Alexa is always listening. If you switch the slider, then this will block the camera with opaque plastic.

This will not make the Echo visually problematic. You may block the camera even 24/7 if you wish.

Process 3: Switch Off The Drop-In Feature

This contentious feature is like an audio and video intercom.  The echo devices could communicate the person in the bedroom with someone enjoying a show in the living room.

When you enable, the Echo devices will be able to communicate without the slight obstruction associated with the phone call.

But if you are not comfortable with the sound of it, then you will have to open the Alexa app and then expand its Settings.

Choose the one you wish to change and then select Communication. You can then turn off the drop ion option.

Process 4: Tweak The Settings

You may Tweak the Settings of the app and this is going to take care of your voice data as Amazon takes a hold of it. So, is Alexa always listening? Follow the steps mentioned below:

Expand Settings and then go to Alexa Account. Next, scroll down to open Alexa Privacy.

Now move on to Manage How Your Data improves Alexa under the blue banner.

By default, the three items will be enabled or set to on. Now disable the Use Messages to Improve Transcription and Help Develop New Features.

Here you may get a warning message that the New Features is not going to properly work when you proceed for making the recorded commands bit less accessible to Amazon.

Process 5: Prune The Call History

This might be the last resort to prune the call history to stop Alexa’s always listening issue.

You will have to log into the History and then erase the conversations with Alexa.

It is not going to stop Alexa from listening or recording the conversations, it is going to wipe out all the previous records.

To apply this technique, go to Settings and then go to Alexa Account. Next, scroll down to open Alexa Privacy.

Now, move on to review Voice History and your list of the Echo interactions will get displayed in front of you. Next, go to the date range box and choose All History.

Now hit the Delete all recordings from the History category. Now you are going to get rid of all the previous recordings.

You may also delete every recording by voice by saying “ Alexa delete everything I said” or something like that!

Final Words

So, I hope by now, you could find out how to stop Alexa from listening.
