What To Do When You Experience BLACK SCREEN After Updating NVIDIA Driver?

Follow the methods provided below when you suddenly get a black screen soon after updating the NVIDIA drivers.

1. Try To Reset NVIDIA Graphics Card

If the graphics card is not working after an update, or if you are experiencing a black screen soon after updating the NVIDIA driver, reset the NVIDIA Graphics card.

Resetting your NVIDIA graphics card can fix graphics issues as it clears out any temporary files or settings causing conflicts.

Resetting the GPU can also help improve overall system performance by clearing out temporary files and cache.

Sometimes, custom settings can cause issues. Resetting the graphics card restores default settings, which can help troubleshoot problems. Now here is how you can do so:

  • Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B. Wait till you hear a beep sound.
  • The screen will remain black for a few more seconds.

This is the shortcut to reset the NVIDIA graphics card. If resetting does not resolve the issue, then move on to the next methods.

2. Enter Safe Mode

The next thing you can do is enter Safe mode. This way you will have access to your PC and can make the required changes during a graphics card failure when you cannot boot into Windows normally. Here is how you can do so:

  • Restart your PC three times.
  • On the third restart, the PC should boot into Advanced startup options.
  • Once you see this menu, click on Troubleshoot.
  • Then select Advanced Options.
  • Next, select Startup settings.
