Follow the methods given below and perform the step when you are getting Low FPS, Lag, Or Stuttering while playing Hogwarts Legacy.

1) Verify The Game Files

When you are getting low FPS or stuttering on Hogwarts Legacy, verify the integrity of game files.

This will fix the problem if the game files are missing or corrupted.

Here is how to verify the game files:

For Steam

Open Steam and click on the Library tab.

Find Hogwarts Legacy and right-click on it. Then expand its Properties.
Click on the Local Files and select the Verify Integrity of game files.

Wait till Steam finishes verifying the game files. After that, try to play the game.

For Epic Games

Open Epic Games Launcher and head to Library.

Right-click on Hogwarts Legacy and click on Manage.

Select Verify and wait till the process finishes.

2) Add Hogwarts Legacy For High Performance In Graphics Settings

After verifying the game files, if Hogwarts Legacy still shows low FPS, then add the game for high Performance.

To do that, follow the steps as given below:

Click on Windows Start Menu and then select Settings.
Select System and then click on Display.

Scroll down to find Graphics and click on it.

Click on the Browse button and navigate to the Hogwarts Legacy installation folder.

Once inside the folder, select Hogwarts Legacy exe and add it.
Next, click on Options and select High Performance. Save the changes by clicking on the Save button.

Now try to play the game once again. If the problem persists, change some in-game settings.

3) Tweak The In-Game Settings

Changing some in-game settings can also help fix the low FPS and stuttering problem while playing Hogwarts Legacy.

Here is what to change in the game settings:

Launch the Hogwarts Legacy game and go to game settings.
Click on the Display Options. Set the Window Mode to Fullscreen.

Then scroll down to find V Sync and disable it.
Next, change the FPS to Uncapped.

Set Upscale Type to Nvidia DLSS or AMD FSR 2. This will depend upon the graphics card you are using.
Set the Upscale mode to Ultra performance and Nvidia reflex low latency to on + boost.
Then turn off Motion blur and Depth of field.

If you are using multiple GPUs, then choose the more powerful GPU. You can choose it from the Select GPU field. Also, ensure that your monitor is connected to that specific GPU.
Next, select Graphics Options and set the Global Quality Preset to low or medium, or recommended.

Once finished changing all the settings, click on Apply settings and restart Hogwarts Legacy. Check if this could fix the problem, else disable Steam Overlay.

4) Disable Steam Overlay

Disabling the Steam overlay will optimize the game and add some boost to the game’s performance.

To disable the Steam overlay feature, follow the steps given below:

Open Steam and head to the library tab.
Right-click on Hogwarts Legacy and expand its Properties.

Go to the General Tab and then uncheck the Steam Overlay option.

Exit the window and run the game. If this could not fix the problem, disable the Control flow guard.

5) Turn Off The Control Flow Guard

The Control Flow guard on Windows helps prevent memory corruption. This prevents ransomware attacks.

But this can cause performance issues in games. So, you can disable the Control Flow guard feature while playing Hogwarts Legacy.

To do that, follow the steps given below:

Type Exploit protection in the Windows search bar and click on the top result.
Go to Program settings.

Next, click on Choose exact file path.

Navigate to the Hogwarts Legacy game installation folder and select the game exe file. Open it.
Turn off the toggle for control Flow Guard and click on the Apply button to save the changes.
Next, click on Add and again go to the game installation folder.

Open the phoenix & binaries folders, and then open the Win64 folder.
Add this exe file and turn off the Control Flow guard toggle again.
Save the changes by clicking on the Apply button.

Launch Hogwarts Legacy and check the Performance.

6) Configure The Power Settings To High Performance

If the above method could not solve the problem, then set the power settings to High Performance.

This will use more energy but allow your computer to improve its Performance.

Press Windows + R keys to launch the Run command box.
Type powercfg.cpl in the Run command box and press Enter.

The Power Options window will open now. Expand the Hide Additional Plans if you cannot find the High-Performance plan listed.
Check the box for the High-performance plan and save the changes.

Once done, check if the game is still stuttering. If yes, then change the settings from the NVIDIA Control Panel.

7) Tweak The Nvidia Control Panel Settings

To boost the game performance, you can change some settings from the Nvidia Control Panel only if you have an Nvidia Graphics card.

This will fix the low FPS and game stuttering problem. Follow the steps to do so:

Right-click on the desktop and select Nvidia Control Panel.
Go to the Manage 3D settings option from the left side.
Next, select the Global Settings tab.

Scroll down to find Shader cache Size. Click on it and set it to unlimited.
Save the changes by clicking on the Apply button.
Again select Manage 3D settings and go to the Program settings tab.

Find the Hogwarts Legacy exe file in the Find program to customize list. Then add it.
If you cannot find it, click on the Browse button. Navigate to the Hogwarts Legacy installation folder.
Add the exe file. After adding the game, expand the next drop-down menu and select High-performance Nvidia processor.

Look for Open GL rendering GPU and set that to your graphics card.
Next, look for the Power Management mode and set it to maximum Performance.
Then set Vsync as adaptive.

Now play the game and see if this could improve the gaming performance. If not, update the graphics drivers.

8) Update Graphics Drivers

Outdated graphics drivers can also trigger low FPS while gaming.

So, you should always keep your graphics drivers updated.

If you have an Nvidia graphics card, use GeForce Experience to update the graphics drivers.

You can download & install it from Nvidia’s website if you do not have it installed.

Then run GeForce Experience and click on Drivers.

Check if there is any new driver available. Download & install it.

For AMD graphics card users, the process is similar, but you need to use the Radeon software instead of GeForce Experience.

First, run the app and check if there is any available new driver.

Download & install the latest drivers.

Once done, restart your PC. If updating drivers did not solve the problem, reinstall the graphics drivers.

9) Reinstall The Graphics Drivers

Follow the steps given below to reinstall the graphics drivers.

Right-click on the Windows Start menu and select Device Manager.
Expand the Display Adapters section and right-click on your Graphics driver.
Select Uninstall Device and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

If this could not fix the problem, close the unnecessary apps running in the background.

10) Close The Unnecessary Apps Running In The Background

If you have lots of apps running in the background, then this can also affect gaming performance. So, close the unnecessary apps to boost Performance.

To close some unnecessary apps in the background, follow the steps given below:

Right-click on the Windows Start menu and click on Task Manager.

Go to the Processes tab. Check for any unnecessary running processes. Right-click on the process and select the End task option.

Apps like Google Chrome, Discord, Nvidia Shadow Play, and GeForce Experience should be closed before playing Hogwarts Legacy.
