Reasons For Google Backup And Sync That Slows Computer
Google Drive provides you immediate access to the updated files and folders and keep them synced between multiple users and devices.
Syncing lots of files and updating, deleting, or moving them makes your RAM suffer. That causes your Google backup and sync to slow the computer and suck up the battery life!
Your other applications need to wait for the bandwidth and your Computer lacks its proficiency.
As a result, your computer runs slow and a program takes a long time to get launched.
Whatever the reason may be. Through this article let us find out some feasible solutions to address the issue.
Method 1: Turn Your Google Drive Off And On
You can try this method of turning off your Google Drive and then turn it back on again to resolve the google backup and sync slows computer problem.
This simple trick is known to have worked wonders for many users. This process stops Google Drive from running in Windows hence controls the usage of your precious RAM and re-clog it.
Let us follow the steps provided below to know how to commence the task:

Step 1: First of all open your Task Manager. Then find Google Drive and select it.
Step 2: Now choose End Process to turn the Google drive off. Next, proceed to reopen the drive and now check whether it is running smoothly now.

You can apply this method to control Google Drive sync high CPU usage. All you have to do is to sync individual folders in google drive. Here I am mentioning the steps for you to follow:
Step 1: First chalk out the files that you wish to sync. Now, organize them into folders.
Step 2: Then click on the Google Drive icon and choose the Preferences option. Proceed for checking the box next to – Only Sync Some Folders To This Computer.
Step 3: Next select the folders you want to sync to the Google Drive folder. Hit the Apply button to accomplish the procedure.
Method 3: Set Bandwidth Limit
Google Drive uses the maximum of the google data and this is the main reason Windows 10 lag because of the cloud storage service. You can put a restriction to limit the data transfer rate for freeing up bandwidth.
Here I am mentioning the steps in detail for your convenience. Follow the steps mentioned below:
Step 1: First of all, right-click on the Google Drive icon from the left side of the taskbar.
Step 2: Now click on the hamburger menu and click on Preferences. Now, go to the Advanced option and you will find the settings for upload and download rate.
Step 3: Now as per your internet plan, choose a rate to restore enough bandwidth for your other applications.
Step 4: Now choose Apply to set the bandwidth limit.
Method 4: Limit The Files To Be Uploaded
This is another preventive measure to Google’s backup and sync slow problem. You can just select the files that need back up and get stored in the google drive.
This way you can select only those files and not the entire drive. Follow the steps given below:
Step 1: Sort out and segregate those files you wish to keep in the drive, in one folder first.
Step 2: Then click on your Google Drive. Now from the windowpane, choose the Overflow menu, go to Preferences.
Step 3: Now, check the options next to Only Sync Some Folders To This Computer. Now choose your selected folder and hit the Apply button.
This will upload the necessary files without clogging the network. This way you can restore the bandwidth every time and retain back the expected speed.
This will tame the drive to enable other applications to work properly and not wait for the bandwidth.

Hi, I have reached 80% of my google drive 100GB storage and am now incouraged by google to purchase additional storage.
a. can this be the reason for my computer being slow?
b. why not wait for 90% or 95% before buying additional storage as I still have 20GB available?
Thank you

My PC and phone were lagging so bad,I thought it was my hdd because in task manager the read/write speeds were running less than 1mbs. I bought a wd drive and purchased win11 because I wanted a clean install..at first it ran good..few days later it was slow again.
I wondered why both PC and phone were affected..coincidence..nah!!.. I had researched to no sensible fix. Then I was looking through chrome settings and found sync…turned it off on both devices…but really didn’t think much about it. Played a game..next day turned on pc,and it worked good…phone too ,I will take your advice and limit data flow..and other stuff you had mentioned.
Thank you
