Fix : FIFA 23 DirectX Function Error (Dx12Renderer, NvAPI_D3D12, DXGI Error Device Hung)

Here is a complete guide on how to solve this error. Perform as given to solve this error on your PC.

1) Reinstall DirectX

The first thing you can do is reinstall DirectX.

Follow the steps below to install the latest version of DirectX:

  • First, visit here. Next, click on the download button after selecting the preferred installer language.

  • After the download is complete, run the exe file and click on Yes to allow the installation.
  • Now, follow the onscreen instruction to finish the download process.
  • Accept the license agreement and click on Next.

  • From the next window, uncheck the Bing Bar Box and click Next to proceed.

  • Complete the installation and wait for the installation to finish.

  • After the installation process is complete restart your PC and then try to launch the game.

2) Debug Nvidia Graphics Card

The next solution is to debug the Nvidia Graphics card.

Here is how to do it:

  • If you have an NVIDIA Graphics card select Debug mode in NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • Right-click on your desktop and select More options. Select NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • Click on the Help tab from the top.
  • Then, click on the Help tab from the top and check Debug mode from the options and launch the game.

3) Reinstall The Graphics Drivers

Reinstalling the graphics drivers is the next best thing that can be done.

Follow the steps to complete the process:

  • Right-click on your Windows Start button and select Device Manager.

  • Now, expand Display Adapters and right-click on the Graphics driver.
  • Select Uninstall Device and after uninstalling the driver, re-install it.

Note: For the AMD graphics driver, you will need to install the Radeon app and run it.

Similarly, for NVIDIA graphics drivers, install the GeForce Experience.

  • Running these apps will help detect the missing graphics drivers and download & install them.
  • Once the drivers are installed, restart your computer.

4) Run The Game On Dedicated Graphics

If you are using a PC or laptop with both integrated and dedicated graphics, make sure that you run the game on the dedicated graphics card.

To do so, follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • First, type Graphics Settings in the Windows search box and press Enter.

  • Click on the Browse button to go to the FIFA 23 installation folder.

  • Next, select the game exe file and click on Add.

  • After the game is added, click on Options, select High performance, and then Save.

  • If you are unaware of the location of the FIFA 23 installation folder, then open Steam and head to the Library section.

  • Right-click on FIFA23 and select Manage and click on Browse local files.

  • Soon the installation folder will open, and all you need to do is to note the address and use it to browse in the Graphics settings.

5) Verify The Integrity Of The Game Files

Verifying the integrity of the game files can help in resolving this issue.

This is how you can do it:

  • First, you need to open Steam and click on Library.

  • Next, right-click on FIFA 23 and open Properties.

  • Then, go to the Local Files tab and select Verify Integrity of game files. Wait for Steam to finish verifying the game files.

  • After the verification finishes, launch the game.

6) Disable Steam Overlay

Disabling the Steam Overlay is another way to resolve the issue if it isn’t solved yet.

Here is how to do it:

  • Open Steam and click on the Steam tab and select Settings.

  • Select In-game and uncheck the box for Enable the Steam Overlay option.

After you have performed the above steps, check whether the issue has been resolved.

7) Low In-Game Graphics

Playing FIFA 23 with low in-game graphics is another way of fixing this issue.

This is how you can do it:

  • Run FIFA 23 launcher and click on Game Settings.

  • Next, go to the Rendering Quality section and select the Low option.

  • Finally, click on OK to save the changes.

Check whether the issue still persists.

8) Disable Full-Screen Optimization

The next thing you can try is disabling the full-screen optimization for FIFA 23.

This is how you can disable it:

  • Open FIFA 23’s installation folder, locate the FIFA 23 exe file, right-click, and select Properties.

  • Go to the Compatibility tab and check the Disable Full Screen option.

  • Next, click on Apply and Ok to save the changes.

9) Tweak NVIDIA Control Panel Settings

Next, you can try tweaking the NVIDIA Control Panel settings.

To do so, follow the steps mentioned below:

  • Open the NVIDIA Control panel and click on Manage 3D settings.

  • Open Program settings and click on the drop-down menu and find the game from here.
  • If you do not find the game enlisted here, click on the Add button.

  • Next, click on Browse and go to the Game Installation Folder.

  • Select the game exe file and click on Open.
  • Scroll to find OpenGL rendering GPU and then select your graphics card from the adjacent list.

  • Next, click on Power management mode and select Prefer maximum performance.

  • Click on Vertical Sync and select Adaptive.

  • Once you have changed all the above settings, launch the game.

10) Try Different Launching Options

If the issue persists, you can try different launching options for FIFA 23.

Follow the methods mentioned below:

  • Open Steam and right-click on FIFA 23 and select Properties.

  • In the launch options, type -d3d11 and try to launch the game each.

  • If it doesn’t work, then type -dx11 and then -dx12 commands.

11) Close Unnecessary Apps

Another thing you can try is closing any unnecessary apps running in the background.

This is how you can close the apps:

  • First, right-click on the Taskbar and select Task Manager.

  • In the Processes tab, check for any unnecessary processes.
  • Right-click on any unnecessary process and select End task to close them.

Note: It is advisable to close apps like Discord, Google Chrome, and GeForce Experience before playing FIFA 23.

12) Update Your Windows

You can also try updating your Windows to resolve this issue.

This is how you can do it:

  • Type Check for updates in the search bar and select the top result.

13) Uninstall And Reinstall FIFA23

The last thing you can try is to reinstall FIFA23.

Follow the steps to do it:

  • Type Control Panel in the Windows search box and press Enter.
