1) Restart The Epson Printer

When you see Epson printer error code 0x97 disconnect and then reconnect it.

Sometimes, this simple trick can fix the problem. Follow the instructions given below to do so:

With the Epson printer turned on, disconnect the USB cables from the printer.

Press the power button of the printer to turn it off.
Wait for a couple of minutes before reconnecting the USB cable to the printer. If you find the USB cable damaged, then replace it with a new one.
Turn on the printer and check if this solves the issue.

2) Connect & Disconnect The Printer In An Inverse Manner

Press the power button till the printer turns off.
Disconnect the USB cables and wait for 5-10 minutes. Press the power button and plug in a different USB cable.
Press the Power button for a minute and once again unplug the cables immediately.

Connect the power cable back and release the power button. Now, this should solve the problem.

3) Check The Paper Tray & The Ink Cartridge

Open the printer case and check the paper tray. Make sure that there is enough paper in the tray. Also, check that no paper is jammed in the printer.

The ink cartridge in the printer is sometimes not inserted properly. This can also be the reason for Epson 0x97 error.

So, reseat the cartridges following the steps given below:

Turn off the Epson printer and carefully remove the cartridges. Check if there is ink in it, otherwise fill it.
Insert the cartridge back. You may hear a clicking sound after inserting it. This assures that the cartridge is correctly seated.

Restart the printer. If you again get the same error, then replace the cartridge.

4) Clean The Print Head

If after performing the above methods, the Epson is showing an error, clean the printer head.

To do it properly, follow the steps as given:

Disconnect the power cables from the Epson printer. Open the printer’s case. Take a soft cotton cloth and damp it in warm water.
Make sure to rinse the extra water from it. Clean the nozzle carefully.

You may also remove the print head and soak it in warm water for about 15 minutes.
Take it out of the water and pat dry with a paper towel. Make sure there is no water or dirt on it.
Completely dry it and then insert the print head back carefully.
