Avast Won’t Let Me Run A Program – How To Fix It?

Avast is always in the top choices for its scanning engine. Being fully compatible with Windows 10, Avast is one of the most popular antivirus programs till date that offers a fairly good free version.

But you may experience Avast won’t let me run a program issue even if you have installed the latest Avast version.

It’s annoying that Avast does not recognize the Windows system files as part of the operating system and tries to erase those.

To avoid this problem, install the latest Avast version before upgrading your PC to the latest OS version.

The issue when Avast won’t let me run a program may arise due to various reasons. Sometimes you may find Broken Avast installation.

Solution 1: Disable Avast Antivirus And Re-Enable It

Action Center Fails To Recognize Avast – issue may occur frequently when the Action Center doesn’t recognize Avast.

In this case, in the down right side of your screen, you will receive pop-up messages indicating- ‘Windows did not find an antivirus program’.

To fix this problem, I am providing some steps to disable Avast Antivirus and re-enable it so that Windows 10 is compelled to recognize it:

Step 1: First of all, right-click on Avast icon and go to Shields control and select Disable for at least 10minutes.

Step 2: After you have finished, enable it once again following the same process selecting Enable all shields.

This will allow Windows 10 to recognize Avast, and check whether the issue is solved this way. In case you find the issue is still there, follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: Right-click on the Start Menu and select elevated Command Prompt.

Step2: Then enter winmgmt /verifyrepository and press the Enter button.

Step 3: When you find WMI repository is consistent -no problems detected, enter winmgmt /resetrepository and hit the Enter button.

Step 4: In case you find WMI repository is inconsistent -problems detected message, enter winmgmt /salvagerepository and then select Enter.

Step 5: If you receive WMI repository has been salvaged – WMI repository has been successfully rebuilt message, then you should carry on till the last step.

Step 6: At last reset your system and hope the problem with Avast and Avast blocking exe files issue is solved.

Solution 2: Fix Avast Causes Black Screen In Windows 10 Issue

It has been reported by some users that installing Avast on Windows 10 created black screen issues. This black screen issue is seldom met. If you encounter this problem, try the following procedure to fix it:

Step 1: Select Avast icon from the taskbar and open Avast user interface.

Step 2: Now move on to the Settings tab and click General.

Step 3: Next select Exclusions options and press Add. Now, enter the following address to exclusions:

  • C:\Windows\Explorer.exe
  • C:\Windows\ImmersiveControlPanel\SystemSettings.exe

Step 4: Finally, give your computer a fresh Restart. Hopefully these will solve the black screen issue.

Solution 3: Resolve Process Trust Error While Installing Avast

When you’re installing Avast on Windows 10, some error message may appear like – Process Trust fatal error saying – Avast doesn’t trust Avast Installer.

If this happens then you cannot install Avast on your computer.

This error is generated if there is a conflict between Avast and your current antivirus program.

The way to solve the issue is, disable your current antivirus and then proceed to install Avast again.

Actually, this error will try to impart that having two antivirus programs installed on your computer is not good. So, disabling the other one will quickly fix the issue.

Solution 4: Update Avast Antivirus

Sometimes, you may receive update Avast bypass download antivirus block message. It is a problem to be immediately dealt with as it leaves your system vulnerable to the latest threats.

In case you find problem to install the latest Avast, follow the steps provided below:

Step 1: Remember to update your OS . if you are running outdated Windows versions it may restrict other apps and programs to run properly.

So, Go to Settings and open Update & Security first.

Step 2: Then click Windows Updates and check for updates. We recommend you to temporarily disable your firewall/ VPN.

Step 3: Sometimes, you may find that firewall is preventing you to install the latest software updates on your computer.

To resolve this, go to Start and enter ‘firewall’. Then double click on Windows Firewall and select Turn Windows Firewall off.

Step 4: Now, clean boot your machine. This will enable you to start Windows 10 using a minimal set of programs and drivers.

Step 5: Software conflict may also prevent Avast updates. So, with the help of the steps mentioned below, you can eliminate software conflicts as a potential cause for this problem.

Type System Configuration in the search box and hit the Enter button.

Step 6: Then on the Services tab, select the Hide all Microsoft services and then click Disable all.

Step 7: Now, open Task Manager and select all items.  Then press Disable.

Step 8: After you have finished, close the Task Manager.

Next click OK on the Start-up tab of the System Configuration dialog box.

Step 9: Finally, restart your computer and try to update Avast.

Solution 5: Repair Avast If It Does Not Start

If Avast meets any problem while loading, try to repair the software. Follow the below mentioned steps:

Step 1: Go to Start and enter control panel. Then launch Control Panel and go to Programs.

Step 2: Then select Avast and choose Repair. When the procedure gets completed, restart your computer and check if the problem when Avast won’t let me run a program is still there.
